And it begins

Thanks for stopping by and checking out my website and blog! Since this is my first post, I thought it would be helpful to tell you why I am taking the time to write it. Since you made it here, you hopefully have seen the rest of my website, and perhaps have seen some of my best and favorite pictures that I have taken.  You maybe have even seen that I have a book, Backpacking and Camping Essentials available on Amazon.

My primary goal as a photographer and adventurer is to capture the texture and colors of my exploration in the outdoors. I have been so lucky to see so many amazing and inspiring places. I want to share those moments of perfection and inspiration with others. The stress and burdens of the everyday can melt away when you disconnect and head to the woods.

This blog will be an account of my photography and outdoor pursuits, my struggles and successes of becoming the photographer I am striving to be. It will detail my passion and excitement for the outdoors and highlight other adventures. I want to share with you my experiences and hope to inspire others to take some pictures, and get out into nature.

There are many projects and trips to share in upcoming posts. I plan on posting updates every Monday and Thursday by 6:00 pm PST. Follow me on Twitter @thederickblack for updates of when I post or to see what’s going on.

Every post I share includes a moment that inspired me, taught me something new, or is just a cool shot.

This past weekend while hiking in Southwest Washington, on one of the last sunny days of autumn, we came across a random footbridge. Unfortunately, this current post was a picture from the second set I took of the bridge. The first set had mellow light, and softer shadows. They were also out of focus. It helps to switch the AF switch on the lens when taking pictures.  Nevertheless, this picture definitely captures the moment, and helped me learn a few new tricks.
