Read MoreElk Cove Trail on Mt. Hood, I was planning on a loop hike up past the Elk Cove campsite continue around and back down past The Pinnacle. Unfortunately I ran into snow about a mile from the Elk Cove camp and after talking to fellow hikers learned that the return trail I was looking to take was nearly impassible. I decided that it wasn’t meant to be and turned around, vowing to go back in a month when the snow has melted.

Read MoreI grew up in Blanding, Utah which is at the heart of San Juan County. During my visit we went on a few smaller hikes to areas that were a large part of my childhood. There is never enough time to see or do everything. This trip was quick and I know from past experience that to really see and get to know these areas you must do it on horseback or my foot, you need to give yourself the time to really see what is around you.
